Lifestyle

Author: Lilly Wang

I am reading an interesting article on how our lifestyle can add years of living:

  • Manage weight - potential longevity gain: 6 to 7 years
  • Lower blood pressure - potential longevity gain: 5 years
  • Exercise - potential longevity gain: 1.3 - 3.7 years
  • Quit smoking - potential longevity gain: 10 years
  • Think positive - potential longevity gain: 10 years (the winner!)

By the way, the once so favored green tea was recently annouced by FDA that it does not have all those fancy effects.  Truth or false? It's really hard to tell these days.  Just like one day it says coffer is the best antioxidants, while another day, it is claimed to be one of the main causes of heart disease.  For me? I only believe my own theory: balance diet, exercise, and positive thinking.

Happy living.

Re: Life style

Good points Lilly. I have to ask a good friend of mine to read this post. Can you please retype "Think Positive" in bold.

Thanks,

Re:

so if i were 40 years old and overweight, had high blood pressure, didnt exercise, smoked and thought negatively and I changed my life on each one of the mentioned points, id gain 35 years of life..

but if i was a 40 year old who did everything but didnt exercise.. and i started to exercise.. id only gain 3 years... seems unfair and im not motivated... :(

Re:

It did not say that if you do all the bad things, you will not be punished by losing several years, it is one way traffic...

But seriously, who wants to live 120 years if you can't drive, can't read, think slowly, don't enjoy food anymore, and all your friends were already dead for 30 years?  I probably would beg to die by that time :))

Girish, you sound like a businessman, bargain every penny on your own life :))

Re:

Its a JOKE!! :)

the theory is that if you were already following all those points, then you would already have bucketed 32 years of your life implicitly.

i would wanna live for 120 years just so i can drive a flying car. :) and we all can inject botox chemicals and look younger. in a decade they will be growing hearts in a container. your muscles and bones can be enhanced with exercise and taking bone creation meds which exist in the market today - or gene therapy.. ok im not saying ppl should do this.. and i know i wont survive beyond prob 70 even, but the search to extend life is a quest since the birth of mankind.

Re:

Sounds so plastic!  If I choose, I choose to live natually.  Just think about if nobody ever die, what a world would be!

Girish, what's the second best book of Arthur Clark?  I am bored, time to read another of his book...

Re:

Wasnt the intention of the original post to extend life in the first place? so its ok to extend it till 80.. but if im extending it to 120 thats wrong? hehehehehehehehe

ok ok i get that you mentioned life extention tips that can be potentially made without injecting chemicals in your body. how ironic for a chemistry major.

if you want to read a smart book, read Asimovs Foundation. Otherwise read Arthur C Clarkes Rendezvous with Rama. If you read the whole series, theres this argument about extending life beyond a certain limit. and the person in the book was given a choice to extend her life. She declined. :)

Re:

Foundation is good.  But will it be a little dry?  I like Auther's writing, kind of poetic (sounds funny using word 'poetic' for a sci-fi author :)).

Thanks for the recommendation, Girish.

It's not wrong if you have a desire to extend your life to 120.  I just feel for you since you will feel so lonley after we all die while you are the only living.  Well, you probably can find a girl friend at 40's, hehe. (that's my coworkers motivation anyway :)) ).
